CWS Advances Initiatives That Support Global Platform Disaster Risk Reduction Goals in Asia

CWS Japan | June 13, 2017

One significant take away from the recent Global Platform for DRR (GPDRR) in Cancun, Mexico is that implementation of Sendai Framework for DRR should be in its full swing by now; and, to advance further, different sectors must talk more about a common vision. In order to decrease disaster losses, there is quite a lot more we – all stakeholders – a can do to support local DRR risk assessments and mitigation planning – much as CWS is doing in the Ayerwaddy delta in Myanmar and in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, and is hoping to do in northern Vietnam in the future.

The summit hosted more than 6,000 participants from 189 countries with the ACT Alliance well represented as a key faith based organizations (FBO) and launching a statement calling for more systematic engagement of FBO members in DRR planning and implementation.
