After a successful pilot project with AmeriCares, CWS is continuing its partnership with Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) in Pathein in Southwest Myanmar to expand a joint Community-based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR) project in five communities. In the newest phase of the project, 20 volunteers were selected by their communities to join a 7-day Training of Trainers based on the course that was successfully piloted with AmeriCares in 2016. The course includes technical DRR topics like hazard mapping and vulnerability assessment as well as participatory facilitation and community mobilization techniques and practice designed to help the volunteers, once they are back in their communities to share their new knowledge and experience in forming and leading Village Disaster Management committees and sub-committees to help their communities be better prepared to respond to the small, chronic and occasional large natural disasters that their country faces.
