Recently, leaders of the ACT Forum Myanmar met with Dr. Win Myat Aye, Union Minister, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in the new Government of the Union of Myanmar (GoUM). Dr. Win Myat Aye emphasized three points of importance to him and the GoUM: accountability to the people of Myanmar; equal treatment for different groups of people, regardless of their background, and, finally, support for livelihoods improvement, especially creating jobs.
Six ACT Myanmar Forum members, including CWS, joined the meeting, which was held in the capital, Nay Pyi Taw. CWS Country Representative Yoko Ito (third person from the right in the group photo) noted, “This was a great opportunity for us to introduce our programs directly to the Minister, and to explain what the ACT Alliance, is.” Also, I was really please that the Minister mentioned that the pending Memorandum of Understanding between the Relief and Resettlement Department and CWS is in the process of being considered.
