In continuing response to western Japan’s severe storms and flooding, CWS is happy to report that our partnership with the YMCA has supported a camping event for 40 children from the disaster-affected areas in Okayama prefecture. Thanks to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, some of the children who survived the crisis found a bit relief from the disaster, which left hundreds dead and injured, and has forced thousands to live in temporary shelters. With the camp’s success and positive outcomes for some of the storm’s worst-affected children, CWS and the YMCA are planning for another one in October. Separately, CWS response with support from the United Church of Canada and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, which is part of Presbyterian Church (USA), to others affected by the July floods and displacement continues alongside CWS support for Japan’s national response to the September 6th Hokkaido earthquake.
