Immediately after the news of Saturday’s (29th September 2018) twin natural disasters hitting Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, CWS staff were in action to partner with ACT Alliance and Humanitarian Forum Indonesia colleagues to determine how best to respond in the immediate aftermath of the 7.5 magnitude earthquake and the tsunami it caused. Additionally, CWS Japan colleagues are in contact with our Indonesia team and their several humanitarian response networks.

As of Monday afternoon (1st October 2018), local time, CWS is coordinating with key humanitarian partners in Jakarta and Sulawesi, while preparing to send a small response team by road from Makassar to Palu with relief supplies not, or no longer, available in cities and towns close to Palu.

With a long-standing partnership with the Indonesia government’s disaster response agency, BNPB, in other Sulawesi districts, the CWS team is well positioned and networked to be of immediate assistance as requested. Updates to follow.
