Let There Be light!

CWS Myanmar | March 3, 2020

Now there is … where once there wasn’t.

Electricity, that is, at 16 village emergency evacuation sites in the Ayeyawaddy River delta area of in Maubin Township in southwest Myanmar.

Thanks to CWS partner, Week of Compassion (WOC), their investment to help communities had paid off. With tangible, transformative changes in their lives, one small mission is accomplished.

Now, power can be generated from solar panels for emergency evacuation points, which are in schools or temples.

Congratulations to the CWS team in Myanmar and village Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Committee members for this!

With WOC funds committed, they did all the work to research, specify, buy, assemble and install solar panels. And, while the panels were placed to ensure safe evacuation spaces during floods and other disaster, some students are now studying at the evacuation sites in the evenings because there is renewably generated light.

What a great unintended consequence for this project!
