Last May (2018) the CWS Cambodia team proudly shared Ven’s story with friends and colleagues worldwide: Thanks to his early involvement with CWS, starting in 2007, Ven was an active participant and supporter of development activities in his village. With his knowledge, commitment and hard work, in addition to becoming a successful businessman, Ven was nominated by his Commune Council and supported by fellow villagers as a candidate for 2017 Commune Council elections. And, he won! Now, two years into his four-year term, Ven has been name First Deputy Commune Chief, which is another big accomplishment for him.

During a recent visit with CWS staff, Ven acknowledged CWS for our efforts and trust in him to learn about and excel at good governance and development planning. He added, “I am so thankful for past CWS support to me to increase my knowledge. I am happy for ongoing coaching too. From having next to nothing, Ven continued, “I have a successful business that helped me lift my family to be in a much better situation. And I now confidently share information and my own knowledge to lead my community members. I am very proud that villagers and other leaders in the commune trust me and appreciate my efforts”.

CWS team members who first met Ven in 2007, are very proud of him, too. He inspires us to continue our work to help others uplift themselves. Few will rise to the leadership levels Ven has; but many will have better lives.
