Organized by the Asian Disaster Reduction and Response Network (ADRRN), Integrated Research on Disaster Risk, UNOCHA, and UNDP, the inaugural Regional Innovation Forum-Asia (RIF-Asia) was held recently in Bangkok, Thailand. CWS Japan took a lead role in Forum planning because of its significant experience and expertise in the sector and also because of its role on the ADRRN Executive Committee. During two days of consultation and discussion, 104 Forum participants focused on ways to solve some of the as yet unsolved disaster risk reduction and humanitarian response challenges with particular attention to the potential strengths of multi-sectoral approaches including NGO, UN, academic and private sector collaboration. The forum also opened up a partnership opportunity for the ADRRN and the UK Humanitarian Innovation Fund for 2017. By the end of the Forum, many specific project ideas had emerged for follow-up and implementation – along with an agreement to report progress at RIF-Asia 2017.
