Asadi – First Prize

To mark World Refugee Day 2020 in a time of social distancing and movement restrictions, CWS organized a stay-at-home poster contest among the boys who live in group homes we support in Jakarta.
Originally from Afghanistan, Asadi was awarded First Prize. He told the judges he was happy to have positive activity to help pass the time during the COVID-19 crisis and restrictions. He also wanted to show, simply, that COVID-19’s impact is global. Second prize winner, Sadiq, who is also Afghan, used Photoshop to make his poster. In it, he encouraged people to stay at home to help stop COVID-19’s spread. Finally, Ismaciil, who is from Somalia, created a very striking image, too. His messages encourage people to wash their hands properly and regularly to protect their own and others health.
All contest participants received new headsets, which they can use for their distance learning sessions. The top prize winners also got to choose sports equipment or an entertainment device to reward their excellence. The boys’ posters will be displayed at the CWS-managed Community Center for refugees in Jakarta – once it reopens.
