Just one year ago, CWS celebrated signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Disaster Management of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement to validate our years of work with communities to improve their disaster preparedness through grassroots risk reduction efforts and to expand and improve water, sanitation and hygiene programs. This was a great milestone for CWS in Myanmar, and one that has made us more confident in expanding and strengthening our own programs while also being part of an initiative to improve cooperation and coordination between the Ministry and Non-Government Organizations.
A key part of the relationship-strengthening is bi-weekly meetings hosted by the Ayeyarwady Region disaster management department, which our Senior Program Manager and Field join regularly with colleagues from other organizations, including Lutheran World Federation and Adventist Development and Relief Agency, among others. The most recent meeting was led a senior Department of Disaster Management colleague, who welcome the group and updated us on his team’s work. After that, each organization reported project implementation progress and accomplishments. For CWS, Poe Ei Phyu, our senior program representative there, talked about our reintroduced Community-based Resilience program, which was well-received.
Now, after some time and effort by Ma Phyu, especially, CWS has good relationship with all relevant Ministry levels: district, division and national, resulting in smooth program operation and cooperation that is so important for our program innovation and progress in Maubin.
